Turning off the monitor

I heard someone talking the other day about turning off the monitor to their toddler's room. My Abby is 5, and I still use the monitor in her room. My husband was mentioning also that maybe we can stop using the monitor in her room, since we have the baby coming. I don't see myself doing that for a long time. There was a time when it wouldn't have crossed my mind that someone could come into my home and take my child. I think about Elizabeth Smart and think I will still be using the monitor when my daughter is 15. Anytime I hear a strange noise that I can't explain, I always go check on her. I can't help myself. I brought this up to hubby and his reply was, "Oh yeah, we're keeping the monitor in there."

Ok. Five is a little old to be eavesdropping. What next...16? Give her some privacy, go to sleep. She'll be fine. Really. :)

Isn't it hard to be a mom?!!

Definitely keep the monitor - My oldest was 5 when her little sister was born and they both had monitors in their rooms.

Even though, at 12 and 7, they don't need them in their rooms anymore - I still have them around, they really come in handy when one of them is sick and may need me more quickly than I would normally hear them.

Just be sure that each kiddos monitor can be on a different channel otherwise you'll get nasty feedback from the receivers.

I can fully understand where you are coming from. In this day and age, it's nearly impossible to relax as a parent.

I lost lots of sleep when Madeleine McCann disappeared. It's just scary now with the horrors out there.
